Name of Project: Whiteman Park Village Playground
Location: Whiteman Park, WA
Client: Department of Planning WA
Whiteman Park is a unique recreation and conservation reserve, located on the doorstep to the Swan Valley, just 25 minutes north-west of the Perth CBD. At 4,000 hectares, it is arguably one of the largest metropolitan parks in the world and has three key themes: recreation, conservation and education.
The vision of the Park is “To create a world class metropolitan park that safeguards biodiversity and the conservation of natural areas, promotes and educates environmental, transport & cultural heritage and provides an area of public open space recognised locally and internationally for its beauty and amenity.”
Whiteman Park is funded by the Western Australian Planning Commission and managed by the Department of Planning. The Park is both a major tourist destination and popular location for community activities, attracting one million visitors per year.
The main children’s playground for Whiteman Park, located in the main village area, was aging and required replacement. The aim for the Department was to maximize the space and budget to provide a playground that enhances the play experience for all children, regardless of age or ability.
Playmaster Pty Ltd was awarded the contract as the successful tenderer in March 2016, with the new playground project works finishing completion in June 2016.
From start to finish of the project, Playmaster were responsible for project managing and coordinating the removal & disposal of the old existing equipment, sifting and cleaning of the existing white washed sand, supply & installation of the new playground equipment, supply & installation of the rubber soft fall train track and supply & installation of new white washed playground sand.
